Since the turn of the twentieth century British Olympic sailors have been no strangers to winning gold but in the twenty first century they lead the field in several classes. 2012 is the year Olympics sailors of the world will gather to compete in Weymouth Bay and, with home advantage, the British can hope for an even greater haul of medals.

The Olympic Legacy

As with other Olympic venues there is a positive outcome after the events. The Royal Navy had moved out of Portland resulting in considerable economic hardship and numerous redundant buildings. The Olympics plus other initiatives are revitalising the whole area, especially on the Portland side of the harbour.

The Weymouth area will be buzzing during the Olympics but you will find the rest of the Jurassic Coast untroubled by the hullabaloo and waiting to afford you the best of the British countryside and coast.
