Charlton Beach is the private beach for the Rousdon Estate and it is a combination of sand and shingle.  It can be reached in two ways and both start off with a gentle stroll through this magnificent manorial estate. The first via a footpath, from the middle of the estate, meanders down through the 'Undercliff', a National Nature Reserve featuring a rare and unusual habitat for plants and birds. The second, for the more intrepid, a track to the far left of the estate descends steeply to a footpath which, after many twists and turns, arrives at the cliff top. A ladder is cut into the cliff for the descent to the beach.
